Traditional Portuguese varieties. “Chão Rijo” literally means “Hard Soil”. It´s the local expression to identify the argilocalcareous soils of the region. Located at less than 10 km (6,2 miles)from the Atlantic Coast at an average altitude of 110 m (360 feet). Due to the closeness of the sea, the climate is very specific, with a muscular Atlantic influence, i.e. moderate temperatures, constant winds and a high percentage of air moisture. Mists are common till mid-morning due to the presence of the Sintra Mountain, to the South.
The grapes were harvested in the beginning of October. Immediate destemming (80%) and crushing. Fermentation in closed stainless steel tanks with temperature control (26-28ºC) and careful pumping over. Aged for one year in exotic wood (50%) and used oak (50%) barrels. Bottled in April 2021.
A versatile wine to enjoy with light meals, barbecue and cheese. Also very good with white meats, cream pastas and Chinese cuisine.
